The Gateway Area Development District provides some housing assistance services, however, most services provided don’t target homelessness directly, but instead focus on establishing home ownership for those who might not otherwise be eligible through typical financing.
Transitional Housing
D.O.V.E.S. (Domestic Violence Emergency Services) of Gateway, Inc. is much more than a spouse abuse shelter. Serving Bath, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, and Rowan County, the staff is trained to provide support and information in a way that allows victims to take control of their lives. DOVES commitment to victims of domestic violence in not limited to families staying in shelter. DOVES also has a variety of outreach services for individuals who need assistance, but not necessarily the shelter including: 24-hour professionally staffed hotline, safe, temporary shelter, hospital advocacy, legal advocacy, counseling and support groups, financial education groups, and assistance with obtaining housing. The Gateway Homeless Coalition (Gateway House) serves five counties in Kentucky: Bath, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan and Rowan. Gateway House offers a safe and supportive place in which homeless individuals and families can rebuild their lives. The staff, volunteers and benefactors are dedicated to providing the resources necessary to ensure the success of our residents as they seek stable, long-term housing. Residents receive shelter, food, personal care and hygiene items as well as case management, counseling, advocacy, referral services and assistance in securing long-term housing. Gateway Children’s Services provides transitional housing programs for male and female youth ages 10 – 17. Residents’ length of stay based on need; approximate length of the program is 4-8 months with variations in length of stay based on level of client participation and progress in treatment as well as individual needs. Gateway Children Services also provides emergency shelter care with therapeutic treatment services. Emergency shelter services can be utilized by referring agencies such as Family/District courts, Court Designated Worker program, Alternative To Detention, Department of Juvenile Justice, Department of Community Based Services for children requiring temporary housing such as runaways and other status offenders.
